Remixes on a Theme by Handel

Remixes on a Theme by Handel is a set of variations for solo piano on the famous aria "Lascia ch'io pianga." The piece remixes its melodic and harmonic content with Minimalism, Rock and Roll, Polytonality, Jazz, Romanticism, Gospel, and concludes with a monumental, five-voice fugue. It is meant as a sort of musical guessing game in which traces of the theme gradually come to light as the piece progresses. Only at the work’s final moments is Handel’s original theme presented.

Remixes on a Theme by Handel was premiered in 2018 during the inaugural season of the Opera Lucca festival with the composer at the piano.
